Let us tell you that on Tuesday evening, a meeting of MLAs and Legislative Council members belonging to Brahmin community was held at the Lucknow residence of BJP MLA from Kushinagar PN Pathak (Panchanand Pathak). This meeting was formally named Sahbhoj, but the presence of a large number of MLAs and MLCs made it much more than a simple social meeting. MLA Shalabhamani Tripathi, Mirzapur MLA Ratnakar Mishra and MLC Umesh Dwivedi are said to be playing an active role in this meeting. There is a lot of discussion regarding this meeting within the ruling party.

Question of voice of Brahmins in caste politics
According to sources, during the meeting the role and representation of Brahmin community in caste based politics was discussed. According to sources, a feeling also emerged that the political voice of Brahmins at the level of power and organization is gradually becoming weak. At a time when different caste groups within the party are seen trying to balance power through their unity and dialogue, this meeting of Brahmin MLAs is being seen as a political signal.

Discussion increased after the meeting of Thakur MLAs

In this sequence, the coming together of Brahmin MLAs raises the question whether dissatisfaction is emerging within the BJP regarding the internal caste balance or it is merely an attempt at dialogue and mutual coordination.

What did Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya say?
Regarding this, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya rejected attempts to look at it through caste lens. He said that the assembly session should not be linked to Brahmins, Kshatriyas, OBCs and SCs. MLAs keep meeting each other. Keep talking. Meeting of MLAs is a different matter. This should not be seen from a different perspective.

PN Pathak’s clarification statement
Regarding the meeting, BJP MLA PN Pathak said that fellow MLAs had gathered at my residence for a banquet. Issues like development of the area and SIR were discussed.
