The fish farming business, which was started with just Rs 20 thousand, has today turned into a business worth Rs 50 to 60 lakh annually.

Initially the young man built a small pond on the vacant land near his village. Earlier he started fish farming only as a hobby and for the purpose of learning. After taking information from nearby experienced farmers and fisheries department, he started rearing fishes of species like Rohu, Bhakur, Nain and Grass. There were difficulties in the beginning, but he did not give up.

While talking to Local 18, Gurucharan Nishad tells that he studied till Intermediate, after that he was running a medical store but the medical store could not run and due to some reason it had to be closed, then it came to his mind that why not do fish farming, then he started the business of fish farming and at present he is earning lakhs of rupees.

Gurucharan Nishad tells that many people of Gonda used to do fish farming, we saw and contacted them, then it came to our mind why not fish farming should be done and then I started fish farming.

How long have you been doing fish farming business: Gurucharan Nishad says that he has been doing fish farming business for about 6 to 7 years.

Where to get training in fish farming: Gurucharan Nishad says that he has received training in fish farming from Andhra Pradesh.

How many bighas of pond did you start with:

Gurucharan Nishad says that start with a pond of two and a half to three bighas. At that time it cost us around Rs 40 to 50 thousand. At present we have fish farming in around 400 bighas of pond.

Where is fish supplied:

Gurucharan Nishad tells that our fish is supplied in Gonda, Gorakhpur, Bahraich and local market. He told that the demand for Rohu fish is high and always remains there, people like it very much.

In the beginning people made fun:

Gurucharan Nishad says that when we started fish farming, people made fun of us and said that there is nothing wrong in fish farming, don’t do it. But once we started it, we did not stop it. Once we suffered a lot of loss due to flood, but even then we did not stop fish farming and currently our annual turnover is around Rs 50 to 60 lakh. He told that the journey which started with Rs 50,000 is now worth Rs 50 to 60 lakh and will increase it further.
